I rented from Enterprise about 10 yrs ago and it was a hassle. DW and I can hook our toad up in about ten minutes and less to unhook. That is not much of a hassle at all. Mileage wise there is almost no difference in towing and I rarely even notice it being behind me.

TOAD
I have been researching this for a few months. We have used a rental car... major hassle, we have used a taxi (small towns one owner/driver types)... got stranded one time and took and extra hour wait to go 8 miles. First driver got busy on a long trip and his buddies would not bail him out and help us. I agree with everyone above. I was going to get a dolly but after all I am planning on purchasing a blue ox system after I buy the car to tow. One step at a time but our big cross country trip this summer will have a car. I have not decided where to buy it from but it will happen.

I agree with many others. Towing four down becomes routine and very easy quickly. It takes about 5 minutes to unhook, maybe 10 to hook up in the morning. No big deal.

Just got back from Mobile where Enterprise was not open on Sunday but did pick us up on Monday after a 3 hour wait since our reservation was not until noon and I called at 9.
If we are going to one place without other planned stops then I might use them again.
If we are going and plan intermediate stops, touring at a campground before the final destination, I plan to bring my toad. Already set up.
When we go with a group I might not bring the toad if I think the others are wanting to go where we want to go. They all have TT.
On our trip to AZ from MI we will take the toad. Too many places in between that we will want to see without taking the Beast. Also easier to park in small towns.
It all depends on what you want to do and where you are.

Rented once. Never again because of all the reasons stated here by others.

We prefer renting or using taxis, but for us that decision is based on how we use our RV. One big reason for no toad is I am not personally comfortable driving that much additional length and I do well over half the driving. Also, we RV to literally get away from our daily routine and just relax in place, so we are not interested in "going and doing" when we get to our destination (both DH and I vacation travelled extensively to sightsee when we were younger, so there are far fewer places left that we have not visited, and most of the remaining ones I would not do by RV). I'd say 98% of the time we never even leave our destination park/racetrack/resort/whatever. So dragging a toad endless miles to only use on a rare occasion makes no sense to us. But again, that is because of how we RV. If we were big on sightseeing or were spending months at a time in one place, we might have a different opinion.
Like most things RV, you will need to make the decision that works best for you regardless of how others approach it.
