So we're going to sell our Fiat 500 Toad and replace it with a brand new Lincoln MKX. We never worried about the Fiat. It was used and cheap. But the Lincoln, we'll that's another story.

I've been looking at the three ways to protect the Lincoln.

1. The horizontal mesh that rides between the RV and the Toad

2. The Vertical "wall" type that rides in front of the Toad's front end

3. The heavy rubber "rockguard" that hangs behind the RVs wheels. Usually seen on a Class A RV.

All are around the same price - $400 to $500.

All claim to do a good job.

But the Mud Flap/Rockguard takes no extra work. the other two devices have to be setup every time you hook and unhook your Toad.

Thing is, I don't even know if the Mud Flap / Rockguard style protectors even work on Class C MHs. You always see these on Class A MHs.

Does anyone have any experience with these things and know what works and what doesn't?

Thanks for those links. I'm leaning toward the horizontal mesh fabric. Easy to install, easy to setup and easy to stow. Plus it seems to be effective as well.

I would rely on reviews for that product.
BTW, I have good regular mud flaps behind the duals on my A. No chips since I trashed the Ad-Flap.

You want to start with having the right mud flaps behind the tires. That is where the rocks start, stop them there and protect your coach as well as the toad.

They need to be at least the width of the tires, and if possible 1" beyond on the inside and outside edge. They should be about 4" off the ground.

When putting a mud flap on the back of a Class C it would need to be custom made to keep from being too close to the ground. You need to stay at least 4" off the ground. Since the Class C is closer to the ground, the mud flap you imaged may be too long. It is 9" tall in the center. Just measure from your lowest obstacle (usually the hitch) to make sure it is at least 16" off the ground. If so, then the OEM you show could work. With the class C, also check on the side for another 3" of clearance. Those are 11-12" tall on the sides.

I am like you, I do not want an additional item on the back that needs to be put on and off. The other option is to put the 3M type clear vinyl type shield on the front of your new Lincoln. Those are great for every vehicle. You can get rock chips while driving behind another car or truck at any time.
