My CRV "DOES" Accumulate Mileage.

What am I doing wrong as our 2011 CRV does accumulate mileage while towing it. I leave the key in the last position before cranking to keep the steering wheel unlocked. Thx.

Something is screwed up...CRVs do not accumulate miles if the key is in the correct position. Call Honda.

You have the key in the ON position instead of the ACC position. In the ON position the ECU is powered and will record mileage. In the ACC position the ECU is not powered and does not record mileage.

BTW, the ACC position is the first click, ON the second, and START the third. Just turn the key one click until the radio comes on and then shut off the radio and the fan. You should be good to go.

I did that once by accident on my CRV. I didn't notice if the mileage recorded but what did happen was the wheels locked up when the Brake Buddy engaged. With the key in the ON position the power steering pump is running and that also powers the brakes. The Brake Buddy was getting power assisted brakes which it wasn't expecting.

Just occurred to me how upset I'd be if I unknowingly bought a used car that was a toad for 10s of thousands of miles but it didn't "accumulate" miles. Everything on the car will still be wearing out with the exception being the engine.... Idk, just a thought that never occurred to me. Almost seems like the old days of rolling back the odometer.
