We recently bought our first Motorhome, it's a Class A 35 footer. We currently own a 2007 Toyota Camry XLE and a 2010 Toyota Tundra 4X4. I have been told that neither make a good Toad without costly modifications. So my question is, what would be a good and comfortable Toad?

Not sure if it qualifies as comfortable but a Chevrolet HHR is a good toad. It requires no modifications, even with automatic tranny, except the removal (or bypass switch) one fuse.

I think your question is too general and open-ended as you'll get all kinds of responses because most of us feel that our toads are "good and comfortable" unless we wouldn't have purchased them. In other words, you're going to get dozens of responses.

That being said, we may as well plug ours. We think Subarus are excellent toads as they are extremely reliable, are AWD, are highly crash-worthy, have no restrictions on speed, no restrictions on the number of miles to be towed before stopping, no fuses to pull, no switches to install, no mileage registered, no modifications to be done to the drive train, and are authorized and approved by the manufacturer to be recreationally towed behind a motorhome.

The only caveat: they have to have manual transmissions to be towed 4-down.

There is a reason the Jeep Wrangler is the #1 vehicle towed behind RVs.

Both the Wrangler and CR-V are popular toads because they are practical and reliable easy to adapt and easy to tow. They each represent a different market basically if 4X4 is important to you and you are comfortable with the utilitarian nature of a Wrangler then it might be a good choice. IF you have a couple of kids and a dog and stuff you want to haul maybe a CR-V is better. The Chevy HHR is popular as well but out of production (good used market).

The mid-sized GMC SUV's are towable mostly (always check the manual) and they may have the comfort you desire.

+1 for njs42. As for other makes and models for towing check out Motorhomes Dingy Towing Guide. It list most of the different vehicles and what is needed for towing 4 down. Remco is also a good source for what can an cannot be towed.

If you are looking for pickup, the Nissan Frontier 4WD, automatic with transfer case is an option. Just put the transfer case in neutral, transmission in Park and go!
