Need a toad in the sweetspot
Trying to find a toad that fits the following specs:
1. Curb weight under 5000 so we can tow it behind our Georgetown.
2. Flat towable.
3. Real towing capacity over 5000 so we can pull our track car on a trailer to events when we aren't on the road.
4. Realistic seating for me and my wife and our three kids ages 4-9.
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited appears to fit 1, 2 and 4 but not sure about 3. Any other choices out there?

Need a toad in the sweetspot
Chevy Colorado is supposed to be able to tow 5900lbs. That's probably too close to your limit if you have extras on the trailer. But, the Jeep GC is supposed to be able to tow 7,400 lbs with the diesel?

Check out the 2015 Colorado Crew Cab 4X4 V6. My Colorado actual weight on scale is 4730, full of fuel no cargo. Trailer tow rating is 7000. Seating is for 5. I have driven several hundred miles with 4 adults and no complaints. I have towed the Colorado 4 down for 2,000 miles with my 2009 Bounder Ford V10, no problems. I have not towed in any big mountains yet. That will happen in June.
Good luck.

Don't know what the tow rating will be for the new Colorado, but rumor has it they will offer a diesel for 2016. I would think the towing ability will go up with the diesel. The 2016s should be available in a few months I would think, the auto manufacturers usually come out with the new models in the middle of the current year.

Depending on how the Grand Cherokee is equipped it will tow between 6200 and 7400 lbs. I have Overland model with a Hemi rated for 7400 lbs and I tow my 7200 lb boat which is the reason I chose it for my toad.

Does the jeep have any issues stopping with that kind of load? My trailer has brakes but for a vehicle with that curb weight did they equip it with enough stopping power? Any issues controlling the load at highway speeds or on grades?
We aren't really pickup people, we would be replacing a Nissan Armada so an SUV is appealing. Although a newer Colorado does look nice.

No problem so far the Jeep brakes are very good and my trailer brakes are good. There could be a issue if your trailer brakes are insufficient for the trailer weight. In my opinion a 5000 lb trailer should have brakes on both axles. And you may need a weight distributing hitch if the tongue weight is too much.

You can get the same V6 diesel as the Ram 1500 in the GC also. Good tow rating and excellent fuel mileage.

X2 on Scott's comment. Although we do not tow with ours the RAM 1500 Ecodiesel is great and easy to tow and is great as a daily driver.

Try to find a Grand Cherokee with a 5.7 hemi for your 3rd requirement.
