Need help with wiring issue

Last year we had a a new wiring to our toad dolly. At the time the mechanic asked me if I wanted the connections to engage the Motorhome brake lights OR the dolly brakelights. He told me it had to be one or the other! Maybe not fully understanding the implications I had him choose the dolly lights.

Now a year later, we have dumped the dolly and installed a ReadyBrake and toad tow plate for towing four down.

Well, its time for our yearly inspection and I find the brake lights work fine on the toad hooked to the rig but dont work on the rig without the toad.

Obviously I'm not going to pass inspection this way! Anyone solved a similar problem? Can't go back to the service guy, he is in a different part of the country. In case it matters the rig is a Monaco Dynasty , the toad a PT cruiser. When I look at the light connections in the rig I DONOT see any loose or unconnected wiring.

Thanks for any help

So I'm sure I understand, do the brake lights work at all on the MH? Could you have a bad brake light fuse on the MH?

I can't believe a mechanic asked if you wanted towd or MH brake lights. That's crazy!
The MH and towd should both have been wired for all the brake lights to come on. It sounds like he may have cut the MH brake light wires and rerouted them to the tow dolly. If that's the case, he has no business working on your MH or anybody else's. I would suggest looking for a good auto electric technician to straighten the whole mess out.
