Need remote control for Brake Buddy Advantage

I recently picked up a Brake Buddy Advantage at a good price, but it was missing the remote. I noticed a lot of the units advertised on eBay and other sites also listed them as missing the remotes. So where did all the remotes go?

What does the remote do?

Is it necessary for the unit to operate?

Thanks to all who responded. Got a good deal from the factory, so no longer looking.
