New 2011 Malibu

I am asking this question for a friend that just bought a 2011 Malibu for a tow car. He got a new tow bar and electrical hook up and everything worked. When he followed the owners manual and pulled the correct fuse everything still worked. The Malibu he traded in when the fuse was pulled everything went dead, transmission in neutral and the key positioned in the accessory position. I pull a Saturn Vue and followed the manual and when I arrived my battery was dead, after that I put a disconnect on the battery and kill the complete system. Has anyone out there bought a new Malibu to pull and followed the direction and everything worked as it was suppose too and the battery was not dead when you arrived.

The Malibu I believe does not have the steering lock...you can actually turn the key to off and all is just fine...My 2007 Saturn VUE only went dead on me once...I don't pull the fuse. I leave it in ACC....making sure all is off including the onstar compass etc...all you see is the clock.....the most I go in a day is 7 to 8 hours and usually half between I start the Saturn and run through the gears again as the manual states 7 hour max.

When we bought a new GMC Acadia in 2007 I was the first owner to tow one (we were the test mule for the Blue Oc base plates). I discovered the instructions in the owner manual were wrong and the battery went dead in a few hours. Called GM Cusotmer Service and they insisted they were right. Went to a dealer and showed him and they agreed the fuse designated in the owner manual wouldn't prevent a dead battery. One of the dealer techs had a back door contact at GM and got his buddy involved. A couple hours later they gave me a different fuse to pull and it worked fine. About 60 days later GM issued a TSB designating a new fuse.

Best I can suggest is try to find a sympathetic Chevy dealer and explain the problem. If the dealer can't help, request an interview with the District Service Rep to discuss the proble The DSR can get the factory honchos involved and get a straight answer.
