New Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Toad???

Sorry to report I am still not the proud owner of a new toad. I learned I could not even consider the Ford F-150 4x4 since the towing capacity of my '97 Eagle is only 5,000 pounds. I test drove a new four door Jeep Wrangler recently, liked it alot, yet could not see myself using it as a daily driver. In my research of small pickups, I was not attracted to Chevy or GMC, Ford is no longer in the business of small pickups, so I am curious if anyone tows a new or newer Toyota Tacoma 4x4, or if anyone has seen one being flat towed. THANK YOU in advance! Jeff... P. S. - the newer Tacoma's do not have a neutral transmission position like Jeeps...

I have a 2012 Honda CRV LX (37 MPG when unhooked!!) all set up as a toad that I need to sell. I think I posted it to the classifieds site a few minutes ago but I haven't seen it up yet. Be glad to tell you more if you are interested.

Unless the Toyota 4X4 has a neutral position transfer case it cannot be towed 4 down without extensive drivshaft modifications. Check here for towing capable vehicles: Application Charts | Remco Towing

I looked at the Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier. Neither can be towed four down without purchasing a stick shift or a driveshaft disconnect. I didn't want the stick shift. I bought a 2010 Nissan Frontier and installed the Remco driveshaft which adds another $1000.00 to your towing setup. The Remco worked well after I got the bugs out of it and reworked their product.

You can tow the Dodge Dakota 4X4 four down with no special equipment. It's a very roomy truck and the one I had came with a V8. In 2008 they went to a 300 HP V8. It towed well, but didn't get great mileage.
