Newbe Towing A 2010 Kia Soul Manual Shift
We are going to be towing a 2010 Kia Soul manual shift. I was looking for any and all advice on details of getting started with the process. The basics I believe I have. I need to purchase the tow bar and base plates and tire pressure monitoring system. Any suggestions on brands are great. I saw the Blue Ox, it looks like a nice unit.
I read something about disconnecting the steering wheel lock so we won't need to insert the ignition key, not sure how to do that.
Any input from experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

You missed an important item. If the Kia weighs more then 3,000 lbs, most, if not all, states require some kind of "brake assist", like a brake buddy. Possible that your insurance would also require it.

It weighs under the 3,000 at 2560 LB. Thanks for the heads up.

You DONOT have to disconnect anything. Follow this procedure:
1. Insert key and turn ignition to ON
2. Turn key to the OFF position, DO NOT remove the key
3. Test steering wheel for free movement.
Most Asian built vehicles built since 2008 have had the feature that the steering interlock only engages after turning the ignition off AND removing the key.

I have a 2013 KIA Soul, all I do is turn the key to accessory (first detent) turn off the radio, and forget it.
edit: BTW my 2013 6 speed manual weighs 2700# full of gas.
We spent 8 hours driving/towing each way on our last trip, no problems what-so-ever, the radio displays the time but it is LED so the draw is negligible.
