No left brake light on trailer

I have a 2010 Newmar Essex and just recently brought it to a shop to have a trailer brake controller hooked up. They got it installed and everything works except the left brake light. I have checked all the fuses and relays and they are all good but they are marked brake/tail lights. My coach has separate brake and turn lights so I am assuming that somewhere there must be a converter that converts from two bulbs to one. I’m hoping someone can help me with this problem. Thanks Tom

Based on your having a trailer brake controller you have a 7 pin connector and maybe not to often a 5 pin. Google 7 pin trailer connectors and you will get a diagram of the wiring hookup. You did not say if the light works on the coach but assuming it does and only the trailer light does not work. With the diagram you can hook up a temp hot and ground to check the wiring and bulbs on the trailer. if that works then a simple fix is to located the wire going in to sypply power to the left brake light and tap into it and run a separate wire to the M H female connector lug for the left brake.

could be just the brake light bulb out.
my left brake light/left turn signal was dead on my recent trip. i thought wire fault so unplugged the wire right in the light assembly and tested with voltmeter, it had power. then i noticed the brake light bulb dead. funny thing was the light bulb has two emitting wires in it, one is thicker, another is thinner. mine was the thicker one dead although the wire looked fine.

No left brake light on trailer

The wiring of the 7 pin plug is correct. All the lights on the coach function properly. Left turn signal would not work if the plug wasn’t wired correctly. Left turn and left brake both use the same wire but like I said all lights on plug work except no left brake light.

Tom-

Not saying this is the case for your coach, but on many coaches (and especially newer ones) the combined turn/stop signals come directly from the turn signal switch or an electronics component that provides the functions of the turn signal switch. Said another way, a converter is unnecessary.

Have you asked Newmar about this?

not to be argumentative but my common sense says that if your left brake light and turn signal work on the coach tapping into that wire and running it to the correct pin on the 7 pin connector would cause the trailer bulb it is attached to do the same thing as the coach bulb. Just saying there is some really crazy wiring in motor home chassis. I am speaking from experience on my Allegro Bus on a Freightliner Chassis. After screwing around with the chassis wiring for several days and numerous calls to Freightliner and a bunch of wiring diagrams. I went back to some good common sense and hooked the light wires from the coach directly to the seven pin and everything worked.
