On my 2008 Outlook I can do the following:

1-Key off and transmission in Park - just like leaving the car normally.
2-Put key in.
3-Slowly rotate key towards "Accy" just until dash lights come on but before key mechanically clicks into Accy.
4-Press button on shifter and move to "Neutral"
5-Release button on shifter.
6-Turn Key to "Off" and remove.

It can't be this simple. Why would this procedure not work?

I found it while trying to figure out how to temporarily disable the electrical interlock between the "Park" safety switch and the ignition key interlock. I have a pretty good knowledge of auto electrical and mechanical systems and was just doing some homework before I got the manuals that would give me the wires I needed to tap.

If I am mistaken, and would hurt my new baby, let me know - I take criticism well - especially if it will save me some repairs down the road.

Is this the FWD or AWD model? I have a 2008 Enclave AWD.

After you do this, is the steering wheel locked or is it free to turn?

When the transmission is in park the steering wheel on mine is locked. With the transmission in neutral, the steering wheel is unlocked, but I can not remove the key.

I have an 08 Acadia SLT AWD as well, getting ready to install base plate shortly.

The steering wheel on mine never locks.

I just went out, jacked the front tires off the ground, and turned the wheel from full left to full right and back again with the transmission in park and the key out.

Has anyone else tried this to see if it works on yours?

I just tested this on my car. 2008 Enclave CXL AWD. On this vehicle, the steering wheel does lock. And while I can get the key out with the car in neutral, the wheel still locks. Key has to be in Acc to keep the wheel from locking, so looks like I'm going to be pulling the fuse. Or putting in a switch.
