Odometer Question
Does the odometer of the toad keep rolling mileage while being towed? Is this some do and some don't kind of answer?
Looking at a new Jeep Wrangler, I was told odometer keeps rolling.
Thx,
Steve

Steve-
While you're waiting for "real" Wrangler owners to respond, you may want to review these iRV2 posts (resulting from a Google search for the terms "wrangler" and "odometer.").

My Jeep Grand Cherokee doesn't roll. I've towed it probably 35K miles in the last 6 years.

Generally not, but there may be a few that do, especially on older vehicles. Odometers have been electronic for many a year now, and they generally do not record unless the ignition is ON (not ACC).
Back in the day when odometers were strictly mechanical it was common for them to accumulate miles whenever the drive wheels were turning. Older Wranglers would be a likely example.

The TJ series does not roll up mileage if the ignition is not in the on position. I believe the same is also true for the JK series. However if you use a braking system that requires power like a Brake Buddy, you may have to leave the ignition in the on position. The TJ series has 2 power ports on the dash. The one that powers the "cigarette lighter" is on regardless of the key position. The second "Power Port" is only on when the ignition is on.

On he TJ, I need to turn the key to the first stop to unlock the steering. Will this cause mileage to accumulate?
I've not towed any significant distance and keep forgetting to check, so I saw this thread and thought I'd hop on

No the odometer will not accumulate mileage if the key is in the ACC position. We've towed our 04 Wrangler over 100,000 miles in addition to the 50,000 miles it's been driven. Only the actual driven miles show on the odometer

Our '97 Jeep GC didn't, nor does the present Honda Odyssey.

The JK Wranglers do not accumulate mileage being towed and you don't even have to leave the key in the ignition. The steering wheel doesn't lock like the '07 and older Jeeps. Also, there is a 12v outlet inside the center console that is hot all the time for a brake system. The one on the dash is ignition key controlled, but the console one is not.
