Overall length

Anyone towing trailer with an overall combined length of motorhome and trailer over 65 feet. With my planned setup I'm going to be right at 70 feet most states have 65 feet length limits. Those of you that are over that length have you been stopped and measured. My guess is no for motorhomes. Just thought I would check to see if anyone had any first hand knowledge. We won't be that long all the time. Just when we need toad and toys.

These state length laws are antiquated.

Is it common to be checked,no. Does it happen, yes! I have seen it first hand but it was a crack down on overlength rigs. One time on the way to Glamis and one time on the way out of the Pismo dunes. CHP was looking specifically for length and proper driver licenses. Those that were cooperative were allowed to unhook and make other arrangements. The uncooperative were fined and then allowed to unhook and make other arrangements or pay impound and towing fees.

IMO if you are driving reasonably and not exceeding the speed limit you will likely go a long time before getting checked. The possibility is always there but have not heard many instances of getting stopped for length alone.

The major concern would be if you were in an accident. The attorneys will always go after willful violations.
