Mainuh-

Just curious... If you power a disconnect solenoid from the parking light lead on the 4-pin connector, what happens (to the toad) if you forget to turn on the parking lights on the coach, or accidentally shut them off while underway?

Mark,

Your battery would obviously still be inline and providing power to the stock brake lights and blinkers (at least with the add a socket kit, not sure about diode kit). So with the "add a brake/blinker socket kit, you'd have 2 brake/blinkers running in each tail light and probably run the risk of the towed battery running down depending on length of your trip.

In our case, if I decide to do the relay on the brake light switch, I think a better choice would be to tie into the 12 volt charge line coming from the coach. That way, if the coach is hooked to the towed, the relay is tripped. There would be no extra switches to remember to throw.

We have the Patriot brake system and it works well. We get an occasional beep from the controller when it drops the signal from the toad, but it goes away quickly. With this combination, I find that a 2 or 3 on the sensitivity is all that is needed. I went with diodes in the lights because it wasn't at all easy to add the extra light sockets in the Liberty. See the etrailer site for lots of information on how to do all of this. I have a charge line from the coach to the Jeep to keep the battery up to snuff. It's fused right at the battery connection in the Jeep and the normal fuse in the coach. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Thanks Jim,

I got it all wired up in early March. Decided to do the diode kit (both diode and socket kit were included in the Blue Ox accessory package I got). I also took 12v from pin 5 coming from coach and feeding a fused battery maintainer in the Jeep.
