Thanks for the input. Can anyone tell me if the PT odometer clocks up mileage while under tow. I have found this 5 speed but it has high miles. I'm wondering if a lot of the miles may have been behind the RV in which case the engine etc etc may have a lot less clicks than it seems.

Can't find the answer anywhere at the PT spec sites on the web.

You put the key in the first position from lock which only unlocks the steering wheel on my PT. There is no power appllied to anything else and no miles are registered on the odometer. I was just test driving some 2006 PT Cruisers and this is still the case on them (I checked this).

Gordon23,

Jafortune is correct. If you unlock the ignition by putting the key in the first position after lock, it will not turn on the electronics for the speedometer.

I own a 2003 Touring edition of the PT Cruiser with a 5 speed manual. I have towed it for three years. It shows 39,000 on the odometer, and the total mileage including towing would be a little over 70,000 miles.

Yup!! What a great car to tow too . Put it in neutral (5 speed only), turn the key and you are done with the car part . Should apply to all manual PT's, but check out the owners manual first.
