Thanks for all the reply's. I just returned from the local dealer and we've settled it down to the ford edge and the saturn vue. They will have two used ones on Monday for me to pick from. I like the idea of not having to mod anything.

Thanks again for all the help. Josh

If you decide on the Saturn Vue, I have a 2006 all set up for flat towing. Let me know if you need any help or advice in getting it ready. I did everything my self except for the baseplate installation. A local shop did it for $50 and I couldn't pass up the deal. Otherwise, I did everything else.

Good luck with your selection ----- Richard.

Ok, all done! I finally ended up purchasing an 07 Nissan X Terra with 30k miles on her. She's got a 6 speed manual tranny and she came at a great price.

Now all I have to do is find a used base plate and tow kit and we are done. Thanks for all the answers on this thread. Josh

I just towed my new 09 Chevy HHR to ARKANSAS, 1000 mi. round trip, and I love it. Light to tow, great gas mileage and all I had to do was install base plate and tow lights. (you can only use a mh mounted tow bar)

Dinghy with room for the grandkids

In response to the posters who need room for large crews, consider the Chevy Traverse. It seats 8 in the middle seat bench configuration, is a joy to drive and can be flat towed in the same way as the Saturns (pull battery fuse #1). We just bought one to accommodate our 5 grandkids for many outings including camping.
