Hi all. We purchased a 2011 JGC Limited in February and have purchased and installed a Blue Ox Base Plate, Aventa LX Towbar and proper wiring as directed by the installer. My 2000 Winnebago Adventurer has a 6 pin out to the 6 pin in installed on the Jeep. Also have the Patriot Aux Brake system.

Everything seems to work fine except for the brake lights. My Jeep does not seem to illuminate the brake lights with the ignition off. This occurs when I am hooked up as a Toad or not plugged in at all.

Wondering if this is normal for these Jeeps and any solutions that you have come up with to get the brake lights to work.

I run all Roadmaster towing equipment for my 2012 Jeep GC Overland, so YMMV. However, I do know that my brake lights are NOT "illuminated" by the Jeep brake light system. The wiring harness I added with diodes uses the current from my 6-pin pigtail and a brake pedal switch attached to the Jeep brake peal arm under the dash. My Brakemaster pushes my Jeep's brake pedal, which triggers that switch, which then illuminates the brakelights. Check through your tow gear documents or return to your installer. Something's amiss. The Jeep ignition should be off, key removed and shouldn't be powering anything- it's essentially a trailer under tow.

Was told by the installer that I am supposed to leave the key in the Accessory position. I may pickup a Battery Jump Pack that I can charge beforehand and use the 12v outlet on it to power the Patriot Braking System.

I recommend you do some research with Blue Ox and check your owners manual. Mine states explicitly to leave in park and remove the key. This is of course after putting in neutral the quadra-trac 2 transfer case. I have a dedicated wire harness with isolation diodes connected to my brake lights. No power from the Jeep.

If your Jeep model is compatible for recreational towing, what your installer is recommending is against what the manual states.
