We have a 2009 Mini Clubman S with manual 6 speed which we are going to tow on a tow dolly. The Mini salesman said we should disconnect battery to prevent the the ABS braking and the tire sensing device from being altered by towing on a dolly. Does this need to be done and will the car odometer record the mileage with the key off?

The car can't record milage unless the front tires are turning it's front wheel drive.

I also have a 2009 Mini and have towed it with a tow dolly (mines an automatic) with no problem with the tire sensors, ABS sensors, nor anything for that matter. If you choose to tow it 4 down I can't imagine that hurting the sensors either. No, no milage will be added while towing on a dolly (or 4 down). I simply load mine (watch the clearance on the dolly and front end) put the tire straps on, tie the steering wheel with wheels centered (no steering lock built in) take fob out, make sure e brake off, lock doors and go. Have fun!

I have a 2010 Mini Cooper JCW that I tow 4 wheels down and have no problems with anything. You don't need to leave the key in the ignition because the steering doesn't lock and the car doesn't rack up millage because the odometer is electronic and the key is off.
Like he said REMEMBER to put the car in neutral and take off the parking brake and go have fun!!!

Same with me 6speed Clubman, tow 4 down without any trouble - BTW this is the second MINI I have towed.

Any reason you want to tow your MINI on a dolly - when it can be easily towed 4 wheels down?? Just curious.

PHESPE

PS the salesman is full of it non of what he says is true

We tow an 03 Cooper S 6 speed four down with no problems. I do have run flat tires on it as I once blew a tire on the suburban that we were towing and do not want to go through something like that again. We do have to leave the key in when towing, but I don't know that it is back there. I also place a sign in the back window "I'm pushing as hard as I can" which brings a smile to the truckers.
