I have been towing a 2002 Acura MDX for a while. It now has ~145,000 driven plus ~20,000 towed miles on it. It has been a great vehicle both to drive and to tow, but now I'm thinking that it may be time to start looking for a replacement.
I looked at MH magazine towable vehicle guide and did not see any mention of the Toyota Rav4. And, I have seen in postings on this forum that many RVers tow Honda CRVs.
Does anyone tow a Rav4?
Would anyone care to comment pro or con on either the Toyota or the Honda?

I don't think you can tow a Rav4 on all 4's without altering the transmission. CRVs are great to tow . . . we towed one for years and now tow a Ford Edge, which also is easy to tow.

According to the owner's manual on daughter's 2010 RAV 4, it can't be flat towed - no exceptions.

REMCO shows 2007-2011 Rav should use a pump. You might contact them for more info.

The CR-V tows 4 wheels down with no modifications needed. Just follow the instructions in the manual on going thro the gears. Great tow car!

Thanks all;
It seems that I have to convince the Admiral that the Rav4 she had picked out is not really what she wants.
I see that the the CRV has options for V6 engine and 4WD. Is anyone towing that configuration? How is it different from the standard 4 with 2wd?

John,
Just last week I was looking at a CRV and the salesman said it does not come with a V-6 option.

RJ;
You are probably correct. I went back to a couple of websites where I had been doing some comparison shopping and could find options for fwd and 4wd but no engine options on the CRV. That's disappointing. You would think they would put the v6 from the Accord as an option.

John,
I just read a post that the 2012 CRV may not be towable.

I have a 2011 CR-V and have been towing it four down for a little over a year now and it has 21k trouble free miles on it. About 10k miles are towable.

I do not believe the CRV 2wd is towable 4 down. I am on my third CRV.

Agree. Also, unless there is a new option for 2012, the CRV has no V6. The inline four, with the five speed trans does fine.

CR-V not only easily towable but a great car by itself. Best Buy consumers reports, highest resale top ten each year, plenty of zip in the 4 banger and a silky smooth transmission, roomy. Excellent value and performance and towability. Our has 80K and 30 K towing---never a problem. A little more road noise than other cars as CR reports---
That does not mean there are not many other good cars to tow.
