Roadmaster Falcon 2 tow bar

So I'm looking to buy a new tow bar that can remain mounted to the motorhome. I have a Roadmaster baseplate, so I'm looking at the Falcon 2 or Falcon 2 All Terrain. I have seen some indications about the Falcon 2 having problems with binding when trying to release the towed car and the all terrain version eliminating the problem (of course at a higher price). So, anyone using the plain Falcon 2 have binding issues and how often?

The only binding I get with the Falcon 2 is when there's pressure (push or pull) on the arms. In that case I use the pressure-release tool.

I have been using the Falcon 2 for 10 years and have had few binding problems. Mainly occurs when toad is not in line with the MH. Also had to replace the two "plungers" once, but it was a DIY job.

What is the "pressure release tool"? I'm not familiar with that.

I have the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain aluminum tow bar for my Jeep Wrangler Sahara and love it --> https://roadmasterinc.com/products/t.../sterling.html


It's easy to handle and easy to connect to / disconnect from the Wrangler. I've had no "binding problems" with the Sterling All Terrain tow bar.

I had a used falcon II that would bind up a lot. It usually took 2 of us, one in the toad and one at the towbar, to get unhitched. I ended up buying a gently used sterling and have never needed the wife's help since

I have the Falcon2 and it’s been good. Every now and then it’s difficult to unhook if on an incline. Turning the wheels left or right usually solves the problem.

We've been using the same F2 AT since 2006 & that's the only time we have binding.

If I was buying new again, I'd buy the all terrain even though it's more money. Amortized over the years it's no big deal.

Binding happens if you have to disconnect on an incline or if you're not inline. (turned) That's exactly the time you're in a hurry to disconnect because you couldn't make the corner you thought you could, or some other mistake that got you stopped in traffic. I only occasionally use the disconnect tool, generally I can put one palm on the button and then wiggle the entire bar up and down and it will release.

It doesn't take long to remember to disconnect on a flat straight section. If money if tight, the Falcon 2 is still a great towbar. I haven't even thought about upgrading mine for a long time now. I guess you can get used to anything........
