I own a 2000 Dutchstar and last Septemberwe went on a trip to Utah for a week. We towed our 2006 HHR. It worked out great having it along, but when I got it home and washed up I noticed our paint and windsheild having several chips.
I've since then went looking for a means of protecting the car. I was shocked

at the price that roadmaster was asking for their Guardian sheild. It's as much as the hitch itself.
Has any of you geniouses come up with a DIY sheild that works and is user friendly?

Do you have a full-width mud flap? If so, check the length, you probably need at least 4+ inches of clearance from the road, or it will kick up gravel something fierce... ask me how I know.

This what I use and it works great, Bonus it folds into a small package that you can place most anywhere when not in use.

When we traded in the Pontiac G6 and got the Caddy SRX I ordered Roadmaster's Guardian defender front cover. Yes, it's a pricey little puppy, but after about 14,000 miles this year I have no paint chips and /or windshield damage. I have seen similar items that were homebuilt, and had I still had a shop to work in that might have been what I would have done. But, since we full time now that was not an option. I like that the Defender breaks down into 3 pieces, it will fit into the cargo area if I need it to. If not I leave it together, and store it between my bike rack and the rear of the coach.

We have used this: Coastline Cover Company: Tow Car Shields
Protects the whole front end. Kind of pricey, but it is well made and is custom to the vehicle. Down side is vehicle should be clean when you put in on, can be work in the cold, rain or mud. But it will also keep the vehicle front clean. Give it a look see.

Full length mudflap at least 4" off the ground should work and once on you don't have something you have to put on and take off, put on and take off.
