HarveyP - Thanks for the info on the bungee material at Ace or True Value. I remember seeing bungee cord by the foot somewhere several years ago, but haven't seen it recently. I could also buy it online, but I'd rather see and feel what I'm getting.
I have looked for shade cloth at Lowe's and Home Depot, but I have not found any, at least not in the north. Someone sent me a PM and suggested shade cloth, which he has seen at Lowe's or Home Depot in FL. We will be heading south shortly, and I will start looking.
As far as dragging your hitch and scraping holes, we have that problem, too. In addition to general overall deterioration (bungee cord wearing through, edges of fabric fraying), the scrapes are part of the reason we need to replace our Protect-A-Tow. We are using a drop receiver and that makes the dragging even worse.
If I end up making my own skirt, I am going to look at a way to make a narrow cutout at the motorhome end to fit around the hitch. The shade cloth supposedly comes in 8' x 30' rolls for $30. That size roll will make at least 5 skirts, so there will be plenty to make a couple of hand-sewn prototypes. Once I get the shape just right, I can pre-cut the fabric and take it to a sail maker or tarp maker to have it professionally sewn as several people have suggested. This sounds like s good project to take on while we are spending the winter in FL.
This has been a good discussion with lots of good suggestions, including a source for the original RV Underskirt. Thanks again to all.
