Safety Cables

We have the Blue ox coiled safety cables and install below the tow bar crossed but wrapped once each around the bar not near the levers. We use the coiled blue ox 6 wire el cord under the tow bar and use a strip of Velcro to make a reusable loop around the bar to insure the cord doesn't drag. We route the coiled red break away cord under the tow bar and do not loop or secure it with anything.

We would rather take the risk of tangling the safety cables in a breakaway around the tow bar vs having them drag on the ground becoming useless and not knowing.

We are always open to suggestions and improvements based on facts.

We always remove the safety cables, wiring harness, and break away cable when leaving the motorhome, or spending the night as we don't have spares. The tow bar has 3 locks.

I have the Roadmaster Sterling tow bar with straight cables, and they actually run through a built-in chase on the bottom side of the bar to keep them up off the road. Since they are meant to be contained in that fashion, to the bar, I cannot see any problem with wrapping your cables around the bar.

I wrap 2 coils around the bar at the toad and cross them under the bar at the hitch. I see a better chance of things staying together that way.

Until I hear oherwise why would I change?

That makes sense to me! I have coiled safety cables but haven't been crossing them. I learn something new every day on this forum!

me too. i didn't cross them, now will do.

X2 on crossing them under the tow bar, I run the power and brake cables over the top.
