Sell Toad with or w/o Tow Hardware?

Our 03 CR-V is being replaced by 11 CR-V. My intent is to move AF1 and related Hdwe to 11. However, wondering if I could sell toad for enough to avoid work of removing and then reinstalling braking hardware.

Opinions?

I'd think selling it with a base plate and wired for towing would be enough. I don't think you'd make enough extra selling it with the brake system to cover buying a new system for your newer car. JMHO.

You can find so many different braking systems on E-Bay, and in nice condition, that are selling at 1/3-1/2 of original price. I don't think you'd get enough to pay for a new system either, IMHO.

The downside of leaving the towing gear attached is that you may be limiting potential customers. Those that want to tow it will be happy to see the gear attached. Those that have no interest in towing it may see the gear and make assumptions about the additional wear and miles on the vehicle that don't show up on the odometer. This could affect whether or not they're interested, and the price they are willing to pay.

As a side note if you were to trade it in at a dealership with the equipment still attached the dealer would want to know how many additional miles the vehicle was towed. They would then use that information to reduce the trade in price. Once they have the vehicle they would remove any towing equipment and never mention to prospective customers it had ever been towed.

They do the same thing with vehicles that have non factory trailer hitches. Many potential customers think that if a trailer hitch has been installed the vehicle has been abused and there is a possibility of transmission or engine problems. To avoid the discussion the dealers remove any signs that the vehicle had been equipped to tow.

Looking for CRV, all set up would be a plus. How much. This could be a win/win.

Hikerdogs is correct, a dealer would not be the place to trade in a vehicle set up for towing. Classified ads on iRV2 or Craig's list, or other places that cater to RVers would be the best place to advertise a car equipped for towing.

I sold my Liberty on Craigslist for $1,000. over book with all tow gear, except tow bar, within half an hour of being online. Just what the buyer was looking for...right timing, right place.

The "toad" market is small and I would pull the equipment and sell them separately.
