Setting up 2014 GMC ACADIA to tow 4 down questions.

All,

I'm the 'proud' owner of a 2014 Acadia AWD that I need to set up behind my motor home 2003 Monaco 43 ft.

I'm not worried about towing as I am switching from a 2000 blazer to the Acadia for a toad.

I now have a roadmaster tow bar behind the motor home 'adapted' to hook up to the blue ox base plate which I had on the previous toad.

Does the roadmaster or blue ox base plates make for a cleaner looking, easier to hook up, and safer base plates? and your recommendations. I do not mind the expense of having the 'adapters' on the end of the roadmaster tow bar changed back to the original.

I know that I have to pull 3 fuses each time OR get them 'adapted' via a fusemaster like adapter. Again looking for recommendations and where you have mounted the 'switches'.

I currently have the roadmaster 'evenbrake' brake in the box type system for a braking system. I am thinking about the SMI Air Force One or the M&G variation. One question that I have with these is that they seem to only work when you 'engage' your brake. Is that true? Has anyone had any issues using one of these when they typically use the engine retarding system to keep their speed under control on down hill stretchs? Thinking of the toad picking up speed and pushing against the tow bar on a down hill stretch. Again looking for ease of hooking up and reliability.

Has anybody used a wireless light bar on their toad? Will they fit under and behind (from the front) the antenna on the rear of the roof. Again looking for recommendations.

Any pictures showing base plates hooked up and or fusemaster switches showing where installed where be appreciated.

Any words of wisdom on have a 'toad charging system' installed to keep the battery charged - should not be an issue unless I use a 'brake in the box' type system, I think.

I will probably be having this done in Az at a RV dealer or perhaps at one of the RV Rallies coming up next month.

Any other words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks for any input.

As to the toad brake system. Air Force ONE and M&G are
both great systems that use the coach air brakes to activate
the toad brakes. Another option is the Stay in Play Duo, do
not have to cut into the coach air brake system, and works
on the same principle. When the coach brake lights come on
and the system senses deceleration it activates.

I just set up a brother to your Acadia a 2016 traverse. I used the roadmaster ez5. very clean install I also used the roadmaster bypass switches 50 am under the hood and 20 amp bypass for the fuses from the battery I put the switch on the center console. I put in the air force one. I installed the control unit for the car behind the passenger fender. Very clean install. I did put a block behind the air cylinder on the brake petal so the cylinder fits cleanly to the brake petal. I will be towing it for the first time this week. I know this is a traverse but a lot of things are simular as far as the install.

Thanks for the responses.

Thanks for the responses and the pictures.

I still need to get back to AZ to have the toad set up for towing.

Will probable go with blue ox base plates and fuse bypass kits.

Thanks again for the pictures.
