We are about two shakes away from deciding that a Jeep TJ will haul our 2000 pound boat to the tidal boat launch, and pull it out of the water when we are done. If we do decide, it will also become our toad behind our 27 foot Triple E Class B +

Your comments are most appreciated... thanks

Sorry don't exactly know what the TJ stands for. But if my memory serves, it's a wrangler or equivalent? Does it have an I-6 Engine? If you have the I-4 engine, I don’t think it can do it. I don't know what the towing limits on that vehicle would be; it should be in your owner’s manual if you still have it. I would not tow that boat until I am sure it can do the job. Even in 4WD, some ramps are still real steep and you might have an issue getting the boat out of the water if you don't have enough pulling power.
Now for a toad, it would be fine. More knowledgeable jeep owners can also sound off and let you know. I would never just trust blind luck and hope for the best however, so having some hard information would be a great idea. The Jeep dealer in your area should also be able to help you, take the VIN number into the parts office and ask your questions, with that number he should have access to every scrap of info Jeep published.
This is just my two cents worth.

Our toad is a 1999 Cherokee Sport 4X4, 3,000 lb 6 CYL .We leave our boat in AZ, and use the jeep to haul the boat to the river. Also got stuck in a two day snow storm in Dalhart TX, we just unhook the jeep and went to town. Good Luck

My '98 Wrangler had a rating of 1000#, but I towed my 3000# boat about 2 miles to the launch ramp. I only did it once a year without any problems. Of course I never went over 35. I would not travel any distance with that combo and would never recommend anyone else do it, but it worked for me.

VI Roamers,
Jeep rates the TJ max towing capacity at 1000 #'s. I wouldn't exceed that rating except maybe for a very short distant. Steering control and braking would be marginal. On a steep boat ramp you might end up launching the jeep along with your boat.
