Small toads
I think I have narrowed down my choice to either the Hyundai Accent or Ford Focus. The main reason for the Focus would be the automatic transmission. Each of these fits as the Baystar 3124 only seems to permit 4000 pounds.
Any thoughts that might sway me<gggg>

Check the Chevrolet Sonic. Towable 4 down with standard or automatic transmission and only weighs 2,690 lbs.

I have been towing a Focus automatic for three years and over 10k miles. It is a light car and tows great. You would want to check into the transmission/clutch issues they have. The seals have a leak problem that then contaminates the clutch pack. Mine was changed at 25k miles. Ford has extended the warranty period on the clutches and the transmission control module due the number of problems reported. None of these problems seem to be related to 4 down towing. Even with the clutch issue I wouldn't want to swap out my Focus for something else. It's been a good car.

Although they're no longer mfg., the Chevy HHR is a great light ( approx 31-3200 lbs ) toad.

up to 2014 MY, honda crv and fit are easy to tow, too.

Focus Folks
We're Focus folks towing out 2008 on a dolly. Been from Florida to GA, to Alaska and back. No problems whatsoever other than normal wear and tear. About 18000 miles so far
We use an American Car Dolly, with electric brakes and break away switch. A little more wear on the Focus rear tires for obvious reasons.
The moho is a 31 foot Itasca 2014 V-10 gasser
We love the set up and it has had little to no impact on our RV travels or on the Focus

Unless you're dead set on Automatics, check out Subaru. We have been towing our 2012 Impreza now for 3 years with no issues. No pumps, required stops, engine running, pulling of fuses, driveshaft disconnects, dead batteries, etc. Just hook up and go.
I believe all Subarus with manual transmissions can be flat towed except the BRZ roadster.

We love our Kia Soul easy to tow at about 2700 # standard 6 speed cost new under $15000.
