Smart Car Toad

Anyone using a Smart Car as a toad ? How did you hook it up ?
I have a Lexington210, G3500, 4.8L. Any towing experience with this motor?

Ken-

First off, welcome to iRV2!

Second, you should add a "signature" to your profile. It contains whatever info you want; most people put info about their coach there, so they don't have to type it into each message. Instructions for adding a signature are here.

On the Smart Car, here is a link to a Google search of iRV2 posts with the phrase "Smart Car" in them. You can enter a search like this:

"smart car" site:irv2.com

directly into Google, or use the green "powered by Google" search box at the top of this page. They both do the same thing.

Hello Ken,
I've been pulling a 2009 smart for over 3,000 miles now. The owners manual has a flat-towing setup procedure. You'll also need to add a "always-on" power outlet for the braking system, and a battery disconnect switch.

Take note of Ron's bungee cord attached to the steering wheel. I have talked to several Smart car owners that experienced extreme death wobble when towing. Be sure you secure the steering with something like he did.

I have not experienced the 'death wobble' myself, but I've heard of it happening, and I talked with someone who has.
I've always hooked up the bungee, and there have been no issues.

We towed a 2009 smart car for several years it was a good car to tow. We pulled it all over Alaska it was great. All of them up to 2015 need bungie cords on the steering wheel. We have a 2016 now it is a much better car easier to drive and better transmission. Lots more pep since it is turbo charged. It is also flat towable with no changes and you don't need the bungie cords. Unfortunatley they stopped producing the gas engine models in 2017. Now they only build electric drive Smarts.
