Recently had the SMI Stay in Play Duo installed on the 2001 Honda CRV. The MH is still at the shop for a bunch of stuff ($$$$).

Anyway, the ? is about the Toad monitor light. The instructions say to mount this light on the tow bar, so it can be visible thru the backup camera. The installers recommend 'not' doing that as California does not like blue lights outside of vehicles and you really do not want to be looking at your backup camera during a panic stop.

I asked them to mount the monitor light up in the front dash area and was wondering just how do they connect the monitor light to the toad so it really monitors the toad brakes ?

The SMI Stay-N-Play-Duo comes with a connection which is mounted on the front of the toad.
From here you run a single wire #14 is good to the front of the coach, have it in a wire mould and tie wrap to existing cables. Mount the light somewhere on the dash so you can see it when you apply the brakes. All you need at this point is a good ground to attach the other side of the light to.
Now you are done, when the switch on the toad is in the "on" position and you step on the brakes of the MH then the light you just installed will light up.

I'm almost sure that is the same LED light that comes with SMI's AF1. If so, it is very bright. I had mine mounted down by my right foot and I can see it out of the corner of my eye and it is not blinding.

Ours is mounted on the side of the break-a-way housing on the front of the toad and has worked fine since '05.. When its not in use it is turned back under the front of the toad out of sight..

Mine has a disconnect plug which I use if I don't want the light on when I am driving the car and apply the brakes. The disconnect is about 6 inches from the light. ps...the light can't be seen when the vehicle is being towed. It is pointed upward and front visibility is blocked by the coach. Too directional for visibility from the side.

Thanx for all of the responses. Will be picking up the coach tomorrow at which time they will be hooking up a connector on the CRV for the dash mounted monitor light.

Mine was mounted on the rear view mirror of the toad as per SMI.
It works great at night, but I don't usually drive at night. I would like to run this wire you mentioned. Where would I find this wire to tie into and won't I need a disconnect from the toad as well?

Followup on the toad monitor light. In order to not have an additional wire from the coach to the toad, had the shop replace the 4x4 cable hook up to a 7x6. The Winnie already had a 7 wire plug. The new cable cost $80, but it is a much better solution than having a extra wire and a seperate hookup on the toad.
