What blows my mind is these units and installation costs more than the older Jeep Cherokee I have 😡 I'm all for safety, but give me a break... I'm not sure if I'll get one or not...

If you want to be legal in most if not all states, you need some kind of braking system for the towed vehicle.

I started with an an EvenBrake (brakes in a box) and replaced it with the SMI Stay-n-Play. SMI wins hands down, I plug in my lights and and we are ready to go.

I have used an Apollo, similar to Brake Buddy, for 10 years now. If the SMI units had been available when I purchased, I would have gone with one of them.

The problem with an inertia triggered systems like Apollo and Brake Buddy is false triggers on rough bumps. The SMI models use inertia and the brakes lights being on.

I used a Brake Buddy for two years but grew tired of taking it in and out. I replaced it with a SMI Stay and Play and would never go back.
