I have had a Kar Kaddy SS with surge brakes since 2005, tow a Mini Cooper with it. Only problem I have had is one of the clearance lite fixtures on the fender vibrated off while travel those wonderfully smooooooth CA Intersates. Total satisified with it and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Thank You

Thank you all. Your advice sounds promising ... and I concur with the comments regarding service from the Mfg: I called them to clarify clearances as well as the correct straps for the smaller tires on the Mini - and got extremely good advice (and help on re. the straps) from the engineer there. Also, as luck would have it, I just drove said mini back from Arkansas, and **happened** to, in a truck stop, pull up right next to an RV towing a PT Cruiser on a **KarKaddy*. Friendly people: they were very willing to talk with me re. their experience with it, and also gave it glowing reviews (and indicated no problems at all with the surge brakes). (are any of you folks those people perchance?? ).

Anyway, I am going to go ahead and get that KarKaddy. Thank you all again for your thoughtful comments!

The KK SS had surge DRUM brakes, not disc brakes, maybe the drums burn
out faster.

I don't own a KK SS. They are to heavy, too expensive, and have too many things
you don't need, that will eventually break.........
Like steering wheels, I have been through campgrounds, parking lots,
and gas stations with my 38' MH and have never needed steering wheels or
a pivot deck.
Anyone that says you "need" these items just needs to learn how to drive.

If it were me, I would check out other dollys. Take a look at the ACME
eze-tow, I have about 10000 miles on mine and no problems at all. Save a lot
of money on a dolly that will do everything you want a dolly to do, and
it's not all complicated gizmos that will give you problems. And they will deliver
it right to your front door.

.
There's a thread going now about all the problems some are having with the Acme dollies (here). Broken parts from vibration, worn out disks and pads, tires worn out in very short order, broken chains, etc. I don't see those problems with a KK-460. Our 460 was delivered to my offices front door and I could have had it delivered to my house too.

No need for any thing put under ramps. Lowered the ball to 18" before traveling and reverse procedure when removing Mini.
I think my 2 x 10 process sounds easier than lower or raising the ball height

I have been following that thread too, in fact I just re-read the whole thread.
All the problems mentioned are on only ONE dolly.
There are not "some" having problems with their ACME dolly, there is only ONE
poster having problems, the rest seem happy with their ACME.
I don't have those problems, other ACME owners don't seem to either.
Every dolly can have problems, I found several posts about people who had
problems with their KK-460, but most are happy, just like the ACME.

I've got the SS and just went through the smokies. Great ride. Pulling with 39ft FleetWood and towing a Caddie DTS. Loved it ..... ONLY prob was a bad rim. Woke up one morning and was going to load the car and had a flat. Called out a repair person and the tire was fine, it was the rim. Welds started leaking. Be calling Demco in a few. Other then that it's a great dolly.

Thanks. I literally just bought mine today. Have not used it yet obviously - next week to Oshkosh will be its first trip. I have however spoken with demco several times, and they are excellent to work with. I will be surprised if they are not very quick to help you.

I have not seen the smokies: sounds like you enjoyed your trip!

Don't forget to pull the pin out of the center of the steering arm. I was at a campground in florida went a man came in with a new demco tow dolly complaining about how bad the tires were. He had to replace the tires twice on his trip from canada. When I pointed out that the steering lock pin was still in he said he wasn't told he had to remove it. He wouldn't talk to me the rest of the time he was there.

Called Demco today about the rim and they have shipped me a new one with tire. Great company. Thanks Demco.

I never said there were lots of people reporting problems, what I said was that there were people reporting problems and there was a thread going about it. There have also been other reports of problems on other threads and forums about the ACME.

Funny. There is an ancient expression: RTFM. Too bad he would not talk to you - life is too short.

And I never used the word "lots", I used the word "some" because that's the
word you used. And I pointed out there were not "some" people having
problems on that particular thread, just one person.

To quote you:
" There's a thread going now about all the problems some are having with the Acme dollies."

And there are reports on other threads of problems with just about every
dolly brand there is, including yours. Is there something about the ACME
that you don't like?
