Steering lock on Jeep JK?

I searched but could not find any info on a steering lock on a 16 JK. Can you remove the key without locking the steering? Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mnoel; Yes you can take the key out. Not sure of the exact date but somewhere in the middle of the 09 model Jeep stopped locking steering columns. I tow my 2011 with no key in the ing.

Yes, a 16 JK/JKU has no steering lock, so no key is needed in ignition when traveling

08 JK/JKU had steering lock, I believe that was the only year for the JK and steering lock.

Mike,
All you have to do is look at page 563 in your 2016 Jeep Wranglers Owners manual. It will spell out the EXACT STEPS in what it takes to tow your Jeep Wrangler behind a motor home. Now, while there are some goof-ups in some of the Jeep Wrangler owners manuals over the years, yours is void of any of the mistakes that were in some. And, with all that being said, there is no where in the steps of that procedure, that it states to leave the key in the ignition at all.

When Jeep created the JK, in 2007, they had a steering lock. That steering lock continued to about mid-way of the '08 production run. AT that point in production, it (Jeep) ceased the steering lock. From mid way of '08 all the way to the latest JL, there is no steering lock.

Yup, had looked at the owners manual. Didn't say I needed to leave the key in. Also didn't say I could take the key out. So I thought I would ask some actual users. Thanks everyone for your advice.
Mike
