Sterling all-terrain tow bar questions

I am having a Sterling all -terrain tow bar installed on my 2008 Four Winds 31f class C at CW.According to my owners manual (2003 HONDA PILOT) THE IGNITION key has to be kept in accesary position to keep the steering wheel unlocked.Wont that be harmful to my electronic ignition by keeping the key on.Im taking a 8 hr trip to N.C.Wont it drain the battery? Is there another way to unlock the steering?If i unhook the battery my brake lights wont work right?.Thanks

I installed a brass battery disconnect on my battery on my 2004 GMC Denali, the lights were wired directly to my coach and worked from the coach battery.

I also have the Sterling All-terrain along with the Roadmaster EZ Twist hidden brackets. They installed a Roadmaster Fusemaster that allows me to disable the fuse that controls key dash power items that are on when the car is in ACC. A simple button toggles between drive and tow. I tow a 2014 Ford Edge. I have not had any issues with the battery draining.

Your towed vehicle brake and turn signal lights work off the power of your motorhome while towing and not the towed vehicle's, and are controlled by the motorhome.. A battery disconnect or pulling the correct fuses will stop your toad battery from draining while having your key in the accessory position while traveling.

When towing our 2005 Element we turn the key completely OFF but do not remove it so the steering does not lock. The Manuel did not show it works that way but forum search gave me the info. No significant drain on the battery so far. Not sure if your vehicle works the same but would be worth trying.

I really recommend you look at the owner's manual for your specific TOAD as many different vehicles have different requirements. Me telling you what I do with my F-150 does you no good...IMHO.
