Note that I am not disputing it can be towed four down, only that if you have a drivetrain issue you may have an issue with warranty coverage. The five speed manuals have collectively accumulated a lot of trouble free towing miles, the newer six speed hasn’t so the jury is still out on longevity of the newer transmission.

Subaru response to FMCA:

Subaru of America (SOA) has responded to Family Motor Coaching magazine's request that the company clarify its position on flat-towing Subaru vehicles behind motorhomes.

”Moving forward, SOA cannot recommend dinghy towing. Our cars should be flat-bedded."

I just set up a 16 Crosstrek 5spd w/ blue ox baseplate and towbar and Air Force One brake system... So far so good with 1000 miles on it... We’re heading out next month for 2mo 5000 mile trip so that will be the real test but I don’t anticipate any problems...
