My daughter's Forester is not only manual, it has a low range lever with 5 more gear choices for off road and beach travel. Of course steering wheel is on the right and it's an Australia model, but that's where she lives. They offer diesel boxer engines with 37 MPG too. I'd love to have one of them for a Toad!

2004 40 Itasca Horizon 350 cummins thanks all for response.looked at Crosteck too but Blue Ox does not have a base plate
for this model yet. Bought Forester with 6speed. many thanks.

Check out this excellent post by CJBROWN on how he used the BlueOx Subaru Impreza baseplate for his new Crosstrek. As he says, "Afterall, the 'trek is just an Impreza with different cladding, front and rear bumper covers, suspension, and wheels, right?" Complete with detailed pictures!

Based on all research, this forum and needing a new car for everyday use, we have purchased a 2014 Subaru Outback. We get it setup for towing next week. I choose the Demco setup with the RVI2.

Just as well that you didn't wait for the 2015 as that is only available with the CVT.

The CVT transmission is not a standard 6 speed. Subaru will no longer offer the CVT, they will still offer the 6 speed manual. Besides, the CVT was an option in the primer trim and standard in the limited. I think I gave made a good choice. Hope so.

I got a '14 outback with a cvt as a work fleet vehicle. Thinking of buying it for us in 3 years when the company retires it. Would want to use it as a toad at that time. Can the cvt subaru's not be used as toads
(Got that sense from a couple posts up).

Manual transmission Subarus can be towed 4 down. CVT or automatic can be towed no more than 31 miles (50 km) at less than 20 mph. (30 kph) Sort of limits it as a toad.

Per the 2014 motorhome dingy guide, only manual transmissions on the Subaru are towable flat down.

It's all in the owner's manual. You cannot tow a CVT equipped Subaru except in an emergency. You cannot even tow them on a dolly as being all wheel drive they have to have all 4 wheels off the ground.

Our Forester had an automatic otherwise we would still have it, but we needed to tow. Wife does not like stick so we did not get another,
We loved it and hated to part.
