Suggestions for 2013 Honda CRV Wiring Harness

Getting ready to set my 2013 Honda CRV set up for flat towing. Planning to go with the Ready Brute Elite, but I'm unsure as to what wiring harness to use. Looking for options on plug and play vs separate bulbs. TIA.

Plug and play:

https://www.etrailer.com/Tow-Bar-Wir...id=20131372978

Partway down the page is a section titled "Do You Need a Brake Light Relay?" You should read that and decide if you do need a brake light relay.

Suggestions for 2013 Honda CRV Wiring Harness

I wired my 2014 CR-V last year and went with a wire harness that uses a second bulb in the rear light housing. Plenty of room in the housing for a separate bulb. You don’t touch the factory wiring. No risk of unintended consequences.

The kits is like $70 on Amazon or eTrailer.

Agree
I've had 2 CRV Toads and have done both w separate bulbs... zero problems and EZ PZ.
Just talked w another RVer in a park that had wiring done and now tail lights dont work when Toad is unplugged.
I'm sure it CAN work if done properly but but there is more room for problems w systems tied together.... none w separate systems.

Thanks, I will strongly consider bulbs after the last comment. Don't want any electrical gremlins.

I didn't mention it but the new bulbs were LED. You can get them either way but figured why not as long as I was installing why no go LED

Read the reviews on the LED bulbs, some mentioned they didn’t think they were very bright? I went with conventional bulbs due to the comments, however I have no direct experience with the LED bulbs. I used the Blue Ox bulb kit. It also came in an LED model. There are more than one mfg of these kits.

I bought a '14 CR-V supposidly all set up to tow with all RoadMaster equip. The wiring was done with diodes. I found so much wrong with the installation of the rest of the systems I decided to redo the wiring
I bought one of the plug n play systems from eTrailer and have been using it with no trouble for two years now

Can someone post a picture of exactly where the hole is drilled in the reflector for an add-on socket and bulb on a 13 CRV? Don't want to find out there's an interference problem AFTER the hole is drilled. Thanks.

Watch the video on etrailer.com showing you the whole install including drilling the new holes in the tail light housing.

The surface they drill thru is not flat and smooth so sealing the new bulb holders could be a challenge. gluing them in with silicone will make it hard to replace the bulb. I made my hole above the existing bulb on the flat inboard surface of the housing with the bulbs pointing out. You do not have clearance straight in with a hole saw to do this but you can carve out the hole quite nicely held at an angle using a ball shaped rasp from Harbor Freight in a drill motor. This location gives you a smooth surface for sealing the bulb holder on. I used bayonet locking style bulb holders on Ebay.
