What do you prefer to tow a vehicle behind your gas class A motorhome, tow dolly or dinghy (4 wheels down). We can't decide and will be towing a grand am that can be towed either way.

4 down. I had a driveshaft disconnect installed so I could tow it 4 down. Worked fine even behind my gas rig.

I switched to 4 down several years ago simply for the ease of hookup and not having to deal with storing the dolly at home or when camping. Other than that it's just which suits you and your pocketbook.

We don't have a gasser but I think most of the pros and cons are the same.

A dolly widens your choice of tow vehicle dramatically but you need to do something with it when you set up. Sometimes that's not an issue but sometimes it is. I imagine that set up with a dolly is a bit more involved too but have always towed four down.

I like to tow 4 down and have with our previous F53 chassis Fourwinds Hurricane and with our current coach. Easy and fast hookup to get on the road. We also don't have to worry about storing the dolly if the site is short.

We tow 4 down as well with out F53 chassis. With only a 4K tow rating (MH is loaded to within 400lb of 22K GVWR, GCWR is 26K) we didn't really want the extra weight of a dolly. Our Acura Integra toad weighs 3100lb (per scales) so we do have some spare capacity but not much.

We also like the ease of hookup/unhook although many dolly owners report easy hookup also.

Tried the tow dolly one year, that was enough for me. Tow 4 down now and won't go back.

4 down for me also, the new tow bars are quick and easy to connect and remove.

Just towed a 2011 Ford Fiesta behind my MH from Virginia to San Diego....easy hook up, easy tow. To compare I had towed a Saturn Aura across country on a dolly last year behind an F150. While I had no major issues the rental dolly had a few quirks in turning. Like the 4 down.

you can actually make a real ''survey'' for folks on this forum to answer. i don't know how to do it but i would like to see it done.

i use a stehl dolly to tow my nissan altima.

Obviously each person tows the way they prefer, for a wide variety of reasons. There is no "best" way for everyone, each person tows the way that's "best" for them.
Here is my opinion. I prefer using a dolly because:
I can tow most any vehicle, not limited to the one with the equipment installed.
I didn't have to install a braking system in my toad and MH.
I didn't have to install a tail light system on my toad. (It's on the trailer.)
I didn't have to install a transmission pump on my toad. (Not all vehicles require this, but both of mine did.)
I can trade my toad in anytime and not have to pay to have all the equipment installed on the new car.
My dolly was less than half the price of installing all of that equipment.
When parked, my dolly will slide up under the back of the MH and only stick out 24".
I can load up my car onto the dolly with little time and effort.
Did I mention that my dolly cost way less than towing 4 down?

These are some of the reasons that I prefer a dolly, others have good reasons they prefer 4 down. It's all a matter of personal preference.
