suzuki grand vitara/JD Powers

Anybody have any experience with the suzuki grand vitara limited 4X4. I was looking to purchase one because of the off road capability of the transfer case HI and low speed, but J D Powers really ranks them so low in reliability I am having second thoughts.

They seem to be a nice vehicle but if you have any plans of doing off roading I would stick to a Jeep. JMHO

I have a 2006 rubicon unlimited with huge tires and it weighs about 4000lbs and the tires and gearing it pulls hard behind the M/H
The jeep wrangler is rated as low as the suzuki and I do believe that mine need constant something or other hand in the shop last summer in colorado for the transmission now it is front end shimmy. actually I have had two jeeps and I like the offroad but generaly they are a pain.

The 4WD Grand Vitara and its sister the Chevy Tracker make excellent toads. They are a little less refined than some other 4WD SUVs, but we owned two (a 2000 and a 2003) and drove/towed them a total of 90k miles with few problems. I did have an O2 sensor fail on the 2003 (at 45k miles) but they fixed that under warranty. A friend has put 80k miles on his GV with essentially zero problems.

The ground clearance is less than a Jeep, but it's a capable offroad vehicle too. Not for rock climbing or stump jumping, but adequate for many trails.
