Swap 2003 Explorer base plate to 2008 Explorer

Has anyone tried to use a base plate from a 2002-2005 Ford Explorer on a 2006-2010 Ford Explorer? I have a Blue Ox #2160 base plate that I removed from my 2003 Explorer and I want to use in on a 2008 Explorer. Blue Ox lists a different part #2198 for the 2008 and I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what the difference is. The vehicles look about the same but I have not removed the bumper yet to take a look. There may be only minor differences that I could have my local welding shop do to make the swap.

The Automobile manufacture redesigned the frame and the body so the manufacture of the base plate also had to redesign the base plate to accommodate the new vehicle. There can be a number of differences from the distance from the frame to the front bumper, the width of the frame, etc.

By the time, a welding shop redesigns the base plate to adapt to the newer vehicle and installs it the cost to you maybe the same or more than the purchase of a new base plate and installation.

Good Luck.
