Tacoma Flat Towing

I have towed an 07 Tacoma Automatic before but sold the truck. I am fixing to purchase an 03 automatic. I know I need a driveshaft disconnect (anyone got one laying around) and other items to make it towable. I lost my instructions/procedure for towing. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, I already know Toyota does not recommend flat towing.

Thanks, Bob

Last I heard Superior bought the DSC part of Remco. My 08 Tacoma access cab, V6, AT, 4x4, with AGM batt, roll up alum slats (500 lbs load rating) security bed cover, and built in SS Gear progressive braking system, new Michlin M/S tires, and almost 36K miles could be available for $25K. It has as been happily towed by my Sprinter and now my 2012 Newmar Bay Star 2901. I am thinking about a 19 F150 KR 4x4 now.

The Tacoma lacks a neutral in the transfer case so I have a Remco (now Superior) drive shaft disconnect.

I park close enough to hook up, set parking brake, move tranny gear selector through all positions and then park and shut engine off. After hook up I restart the engine, shift to neutral and shut the engine off. I pull the DSC knob to disengage the drive shaft and then move the shifter to park. I insert the valet key into the ignition and turn the key to where the steering wheel is not locked and the radio and lights are off. I release the parking brake slowly to limit any jolt to the hitch if on a hill. Finally, I exit and lock the doors leaving the valet key in the ignition.

I hope this helps.

Joe, That was the procedure I was looking. Right after I read your reply I found the instructions. I have a 2wd Tacoma, therefore no transfer case.

Thanks, Bob
