Tahoe vs Acadia

We are in the process of buying our first RV, a 2011 Monaco Diplomat, and are finding that my husband will have to trade in his much-loved Denali, for something towable. Not wanting to stray too far from the great ride, performance and size of the Denali, he is considering either a Tahoe or an Acadia, which are about 6000 and 5000 lbs respectively. The Monaco has a 425 Cummins.

Any advice on the differences in towing those two types and weights of vehicles?

Thanks

You might want to check M/H Mag. Dinghy Towing Guide or Remco before you trade. Most Chev.& GMC Trucks & SUVs are towable 4 down. Some modifications might be required. Of course your owners manual is your best source of info.

I tow a Yukon XL, which is GMC's version of the Suburban and my MH has 400HP.

Most of the time I don't know it's back there. I know it's back there in the mountains, but normally it's not an issue.

As noted above always check the owners manual before purchase.

We've towed our 2007 Acadia across the country and back, more than 20k miles altogether. Both the Yukon and the Acadia are excellent vehicles, docile toads and have similar interior space, so it's pretty much a matter of what you prefer in terms of styling.

The Diplomat won't notice the weight difference except on long, steep grades where there is an extra 1000# to get the Yukon to the top of the hill. And probably not much difference then either.
