Tires for my Tow Dolly

HI all!!

I tow a 2006 Nissan Altma on my car dolly. I need to replace the tires on the dolly. Do I need to buy a trailer tire or can I buy a Regular auto 15" tire. Thanks in advance.

If Goodyear made a Marathon tire in your size, I would consider that first. (or equivalent)

The tow dolly should be treated like a trailer and Marathon tires have been doing well in that regard. Those tires have other properties that make them more suitable than a conventional automobile tires like UV protection for one.

I'm sure that the price won't be that much different. Just check it out on your own first.

Tow Dolly Tires

I own a Roadmaster Tow Dolly and had regular tires on it when I bought it used. They gave me nothing but trouble. I then checked around and was told they have to be trailer tires as trailer tires have a different sidewall than regular tires. After all a tow dolly is like a trailer as it has to corner and hold weight.

Therefore I recommend trailer tires for your tow dolly. I also recommend you purchase a spare tire and wheel for it. If you have a flat tire then road service will have to bring a tire and charge you for mounting and the tire.

Hope this answers your question.

my stehl tow dolly that i use to tow my '02 altima came with 6 ply trailer tires. they take 65# of air. i got a spare rim and mounted tire from les schwab tire co. when i need to replace mine it will be with 6 ply trailer tires. watch the offset when you purchase a spare rim. they are not all the same.
