A friend tows an HHR. He has to remove a fuse to tow - I don't recall which one. The owner manual for any GM vehicle will tell you what you need to know about towing as a toad. Look under Recreational Towing.

I'm towing my second HHR. They are great vehicles, versatile, trouble free, economical to operate and fun to drive (both of mine are five speed manuals but I have driven a 2.4l auto and it was quite responsive). I started towing my 06 LS on a dolly but got tired of slugging the dolly around at RV parks so went four down using a Demco base plate and Ready Brake towbar/brake system. Very simple, works great, easy to hook up/disconnect. I use a separate LED light bar attached to a bike rack with a wire harness that I run right through the car and plug into the motorhome, going around the car's light system completely.
I'm happy to answer any other questions......and I have a Demco 9517196 baseplate for any year LS or LT looking for a new home (my 09 HHR SS required a different baseplate because of the intercooler)

I am towing a 08 LT2 4 down this summer. All Roadmaster, base plate, tow bar, diodes in taillights, BrakeMaster Air brake system.
Brake, lights all plug in and tow

To tow it, key switch on ACC, transmission in N, One 2 AMP fuse to pull. I put a on/off switch in for the fuse.

Average MPG with the 2.4L has been 25.12 over the last 4,334 miles with around 1,500 of those city with stop signs every mile. High tank 29.96 & low 20.14
