Yesterday had my first chance to really try out my new towing arrangement--- Winnebago View towing a Scion xA four-down. Toad brakes are controlled by a Roadmaster BrakePro unit. After towing for about 2 hours with fairly frequent stops (non-freeway driving but not in the city), I got an indication on my BrakeAlert device that the toad's battery was running low! When this happens with a BrakePro, it basically quits normal braking (still has break-away protection, however).

I can't imagine running down the battery that quickly. It was daylight and the Scion key was in ACC position but radio was off. Other than brake lights and the BrakePro itself, no other battery draw was in the mix. I suppose the air compressor on the BrakePro requires a fair amount of battery power, but at this rate I won't make it very far! Both BrakePro sensitivity and braking pressure were set at 2. By the way, I estimate that the BrakePro applied the brakes on the Scion about 30 to 40 times during my little trip.

Any ideas? (I had no trouble starting the Scion after disconnecting it)

You may want to concider adding a charge line back to the toad so that you can keep the battery charged up.

Some vehicles require that afuse or two be pulled while towing, to prevent battery run-down. I don't know if your Scion is one of them, but check the owners manual for towing info or ask your dealer.

Or maybe another Scion owner can advise...
