Toad brake controllers

Do all goat's require brake controllers? I have a 40 foot class A with a tag accel and will be towing a 2007 Jeep Liberty, I also have a Blue ox tow bar. Do I need a brake controller?

No. You dont need a brake controller but you should get a supplemental braking system, as most states require something.

Two recent threads that may be helpful:

Tow Brake Systems

break away system

There are many others, with lots of opinions. But the bottom line is that supplemental breaking and breakaway system are required by law almost everywhere, and they are a favor to fellow travellers who will be behind you on the road.

We have a 2004 Fleetwood Revolution 40c. We have towed a 2006 Jeep Liberty for 10 years without a brake system.

Worrying that my luck might run out, I've just installed the ReadyBrake system. It's a mechanical surge system. We just got back from the first trip (short) with the brake system and I'm still getting it dialed in.
But, I could tell the difference in stopping especially, quick stops.

I have a SMI Air Force 1 braking system on my toad. I love it. I is proportional and works off the coaches air brake system so no adjustment is necessary. It has a break away system. The controller mounts under the hood and the actuator mounts on the brake peddle arm with a cable that mounts to the firewall. It can't be seen. It takes 1 minute to hook up and can be uninstalled and reinstalled in a different vehicle if you purchase a different toad but you have to be mechanically inclined if you wish to do it yourself as I did. The company is great. They stand behind their product and have great customer service.

You may need a Brake Controller depending on which type of Toad Auxiliary braking system you go with. The Brake Buddy Stealth comes with it's own.
Choose your Toad Braking system wisely, also the one that is the easiest for you to use and install.
