Toad lists...

Hi Guys,

I need to know with certainty whether my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder can be flat towed or not. I went to the motorhome mag link that everyone seems to provide and my suv isn't listed there. However, there is another list on another website where my Pathfinder is, indeed, listed. I recall reading that my 2005 Pathfinder could be flat towed, but only if the transmission was capable of running in full time 2wd. All wheel drives are not towable. Mine can be put into permanent 2wd, which means the front wheels are disconnected from the transmission. Anyway, I sure wish someone would tell me where I saw that toad list that contains the toad info on my Pathfinder. I've Googled till I'm blue in the face and I can not find that link. It was actually someone on a forum like this one who gave me the link originally. So, if anyone here can help I'd appreciate it. I'm supposed to get a base plate installed early next week, so I can go and take delivery of my new/used Dutch Star.

If you have a transfer case, with a neutral position, it probably is flat tow able. That's typically the key. However, these people may be able to help you more definitively: Home | Remco Towing

When I was seeking similar information, I used the REMCO website (previously mentioned) and read that my choice was,indeed, flat towable. Blue Ox made a base plate for my vehicle, which seemed to reinforce that it was flat towable.

However, I was pretty sure that if flat towing my car damaged the drivetrain, REMCO and Blue Ox would both feel pretty bad about that. But, it would be me, alone, who was talking to my car's manufacturer about reimbursement for the damages.

So, I searched my vehicle owner's manual. I called the manufacturer's toll free number and spoke with their representative (carefully noting the name, date, time and nature of the conversation). Only after confirming that both of those sources clearly and unequivocally stated that I could flat tow my vehicle, did I feel like I could safely tow it.

You'll get lot's of great advice from many sources, this forum for sure.

Just don't assume that those giving you their free advice will be standing beside you with their checkbooks in hand IF something doesn't go well in your towing experience.
