Toad protection

I am towing a GMC Sierra and looking for front end paint protection from stone chips under front bumper.

There are a number of aftermarket tow car protectors from tape to fabric. I have little or no experience with them........but I can share an experience I had this summer in Whitehorse.

Class A pulled in next to me and I heard some racket behind the coach. I walked over and the guy was removing the remaining glass from his headlight bowl on his new jeep. The entire front of the jeep was destroyed from rocks.

I told him that removing the rock guard from his coach would prevent the rocks from hammering the front of his jeep. He filled the empty headlight bowls with newspaper and duct tape and took off.

I was towing my 1995 jeep (11,500 miles, no rock guard)), very little rock damage but plenty of dust.

Thanks hayward3411, I have heard that also. Seems unusual to remove protection for better protection but like you I have very little experience. I have just driven from Florida to Idaho and have a few chips..

All that is needed for 90%+ protection is to remove that big advertising flap from the underside of the rear of the coach. Then insure that the small mud flaps behind the drive or tag wheels are in place. I had $800 worth of paint damage with the flap and zero damage after the flap was removed. That said, I bought a Protect-A-Tow a couple years ago and just now installed it after buying a white diamond colored Avalanche. A stone chip would really show up on that white surface, so, as long as I already had it, I added it for extra protection. It's probably not needed, but is extra insurance.

I highly recommend the PROTECT- A -TOW. Besides protecting the tow vehicle, it also makes a huge improvement in keeping the rear of the motorhome and tow cleaner.

Looks like it will not work on motorhomes with rear exhaust . Too bad, I really liked the way it protects the toad.

Protect-a-Tow is great, been towing my 2011 Honda CR-V since Nov 2011 and not one ding on the CR-V. Also as said above the Back of the MH and camera stay cleaner. Have a friend from Alaska who went from the wide plastic protector to Protect-a-Tow, because even though that plastic goodie protected the Toad it ruined the back of his MH with rock chips that bounced off the thingee and smacked the back of his MH.

Check with the Company, I thought they came up with something to handle the direct rear exhaust.

I thought the same thing but they don't mention it on their website. It would certainly be worth a phone call!

I agree, love it. 15000 miles and not one chip.

I did call Protect-A-Tow and they do not have a solution or product for a diesel pusher with rear exit exhaust. Said they have tried different designs but can't come up with one that will not get melted by the rear exhaust since the fabric needs to stay intact to properly house and support the bungee cord channel .

Oh well
