Second splash gaurd behind OEM splash gaurd
The attached picture will explain the approach I took on this subject and haven't experienced any issues yet. Got rid of the big flap after first trip, my 14 Edge was covered in sand and dirt. Also, engine and compartment stays cleaner. I am sure side or rear radiator, gasser and even height of towed to rear of the coach figures into the equation, something else to do with that big flap when it gets damaged.

I agree with you on the removal of the rear flap. I do not use any protection devices since removing my rear flap and find the toad along with the rear of the coach and engine compartment stay cleaner.
Some folks like the looks of the chrome flasher and thus must deal with its consequences.
Mine took up residence in a campground in Whitehorse, YK some years ago and lives happily ever after.

Note that the Protect-A-Tow is available in standard or extended length. They show you how to determine which you need!
