This is why I was trying to catch-up with the guy towing 4-down a recent (last couple of years) Toyota 4Runner. Undoubtedly you void your warranty but aside from that minor problem() I was wondering what precautions he might be taking.

What you saw was a 4Runner TRAIL EDITION. It is the only Toyota in decades to have a manual shift transfer case with a neutral position. Only the Trail Edition has this feature on it's base model, not the Premium . Even with this transfer case Toyota will not certify it for 4down towing.

I have seen a few people towing Econoline vans. Sort of combines a toad and a trailer. If you would like extra cargo capacity it might make sense.

i have seen:
a guy was towing an acura mdx. not sure exact year but not new, maybe 06-08.

i have read here:
a guy was towing a lexus gx. i remember he was from texas and bragged about daring push his car down a hill with a gear at n. have not seen him here for years.

to my understanding, a car manufacturer says can't be towed, normally really because the trans lube pump is driven by electricity not by wheel. when engine is not run, trans has no lubrication. those said can be towed, because the trans lube pump is tied to the drive wheel. there might be exceptions, but i dunno.

My NightHawk came in Friday and used it today. I like the quality, even better than my old Classic Sterling bar.

I've towed a 2000 Lexus RX300 front wheel drive about 50,000 miles now.

Got a letter from the local Lexus dealer stating it could be towed 4 down.

The reason we got it to tow was that it rides so nice and is comfortable.

We were in northern California and saw a Lexus RX350 being flat towed. I'm sure he was using a lube pump. He was in the campsite across from us. I never got the chance to ask him about towing it. At the time, we also owned an RX350, but never wanted to tow it.

We would love to buy a used Lexus and tow it! Can you give me more details?
Who is the Dealer, name and contact number, what year and models apply! What precautions to take ? What kind of transmission?
And where I can buy one for sale? We live in. California, but are willing to travel to get one

It was Fresno Lexus back in 2006.

1999, 2000 and possibly 2001 Lexus RX300.

Automatic transmission, Front wheel Drive. NOT AWD

Look on Craig's List...a 2000 RX300 is about $5,000 to $8,000.

I put mine in neutral and turn the key to first position so the steering wheel is loose.

I disconnect and drive it every travel day to keep the transmission lubed.

We are towing a 2007 Lexus LX 470 4 down. As mentioned earlier most every Toyota 4wd, or awd product can be towed 4 down IF it has a manual transfer case shifter. I think the only potential problem in towing something other than what is mainstream is finding adapter plates.

Suby Forester toad. Maybe 12-15k miles so far. It's an '09, manual tranny, using ReadyBrute Elite. Was an "approved" vehicle before Subaru of America changed their policy on towing last year. ST

I tow a 1st generation '06.5 Scion xB, manual trans. book says 55 mph max and must stop every 200 miles to idle the engine for 5 minutes... After pondering the challenge ....(no hissy fits pls) I just let the engine idle while towing, insuring that the input shaft is lubing the gears & drive with traffic..
The xB weighs 2400 lbs

Since it's running when towed (which is one solution to the lubrication/cooling), does it accumulate miles on the odometer?
